Wallace’s pARCs (protected Area Resilience to Climate change)- new open access webserver

Wallace’s pARCs webserver contains ~98,000 reports, one each for most of the terrestrial protected areas in the World that are >1km2 in size. Each report is approximately 50 pages in length and contains a standard set of information designed to assist protected area managers and conservation planners in increasing the resilience

Wallace’s pARCs webserver contains ~98,000 reports, one each for most of the terrestrial protected areas in the World that are >1km2 in size. Each report is approximately 50 pages in length and contains a standard set of information designed to assist protected area managers and conservation planners in increasing the resilience of the protected area to climate change. To this end, the reports help them to understand the level of vulnerability of the protected area to climate change. The reports contain information on observed climate change, land cover and human population changes, as well as projected changes in climate, human population, and impacts of climate change on biodiversity. The information on climate change examines extirpation risk, refugia potential, and provides a novel adaptation index for each area. Each protected area is ranked for its potential resilience to 4°C warming (global, above pre-industrial) relative to all the other protected areas. There is a similar report provided for each country, lacking the overall resilience ranking.
