The RE-CONNECT project, funded by the European Commission DG Climate Action project, is dedicated to assisting the 196 Parties committed to the 2015 Paris Agreement, established under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, in meeting their climate change obligations.

As more ambitious and robust Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are expected to come into effect by the end of 2025, it is anticipated that reporting Parties will require specialist support to model GHG pathways and enhance their analytical, strategic, and policymaking capacities. The Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) also requires countries to submit their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) by the end of 2024, which also have significant analytical requirements. The RE-CONNECT project aims to address these needs by bolstering the capacity of developing countries to undertake robust greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions modelling and monitoring activities.

Operating until early 2028, RE-CONNECT brings together international experts and participants from diverse countries to:

  • Enhance the monitoring, reporting, verification, and utilisation of GHG emissions data.
  • Strengthen the capacity of Paris Agreement signatories to collect and report robust GHG emissions data and associated policies.
  • Sustainably improve mitigation modelling capabilities in target countries and foster their utilisation by policymakers.
  • Promote transparency in processes and reporting, fostering trust and collaboration among participating countries while accumulating robust GHG emission datasets.

With the first issue scheduled for spring/summer 2024, the project will launch a bi-monthly Climate Change Modelling Information Newsletter providing updates on the latest project news, research, updates and information on GHG monitoring and reporting. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES COMING SOON! The RE-CONNECT programme also provides the climate change modelling community with funding opportunities to attend relevant events linked to climate change modelling and reporting around the world. More information on funding and how to apply will be available in the coming weeks. The programme is able to support developing and developed country experts (based on specific evaluation criteria) to participate in this year’s Seventeenth Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium (IAMC) to be held on 4-6 November 2024 at Yonsei University, Main Campus, Seoul, South Korea. The Annual IAMC Meeting will take place in person, with a portfolio of online events as part of the programme. For more information, please contact iamc@iamconsortium.org.
