About this Special Issue:
The energy system has a two-way relationship with climate change. On one hand, the energy system is the primary source of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and thus has a direct influence on the magnitude of climate change. On the other hand, the energy system is itself exposed and vulnerable to a changing climate. The development pathways of the energy system also determine its vulnerability to climate impacts, with different development pathways leading to different consequences. Furthermore, adapting to climate change impacts may have an influence on energy system GHG emissions. These linkages are complex and vary from region to region, based on the factors such as the energy system configuration, socioeconomic development, and local climate.
Climate change can cause a wide range of impacts across energy systems from energy supply, conversion and transport to final energy end uses. Given the potential consequences of a changing climate, assessing impacts along with resilience and adaptation strategies is important to help cope with the potential challenges.
This Special Issue aims to bring forward new research on climate change impacts and adaptation in the energy sector and to provide innovative assessments to fill current literature gaps. Issues of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
The deadline for submission to this special issue is consistent with the submission deadline for the IPCC’s 6th assessment report (AR6) so that the papers can serve as part of the literature base for that assessment. We welcome multiple article types, including original research articles, review articles, and perspectives.
Energy and Climate Change is a new, interdisciplinary journal committed to research on energy-related solutions to climate change. Energy and Climate Change aims to promote rapid communication and dialogue among multiple disciplines engaged in energy and climate change issues.
