Supporting climate policy for Indian states: Learnings from long-term modelling

As India and its states move towards realizing net-zero emissions, long-term energy and emissions modelling using integrated assessment models (IAMs) are necessary to institute and embed long-term planning in both national- and state-level policies. The issue brief, Supporting Climate Policy for Indian States: Learnings from Long-term Modelling, encapsulates the experiences, insights and key learnings gathered by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) over the past three years while working with various Indian states to model long-term net-zero strategies. By leveraging the Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM) and through continuous consultations with state departments and other stakeholders, CEEW has aimed to create strategic visions for each state’s decarbonization journey. These visions are tailored to the unique socioeconomic contexts, energy resources, and developmental aspirations of each state. The study can be accessed at:
