This event will include the launch of the EEIST Project flagship report: The New Economics of Innovation and Transition. The report includes concrete examples of transformative energy policy initiatives from Brazil, China, India and the EU. At the event, international experts in complexity economics, systems thinking, and energy policy will discuss new decision-making techniques and modelling tools to support similarly bold initiatives elsewhere, including delivery of the Glasgow Breakthrough outcomes.

Organisers: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)The presenters will showcase different pathways for achieving a just, low-carbon, and climate-resilient transition by 2050. This will include key considerations for addressing mitigation and adaptation challenges, such as technology innovations, energy use, and emissions to ratchet up climate ambitions.

Organisers: University of Exeter, Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), Met Office Hadley Center, University of Leeds, University of ReadingThe event will present the 2021 rebound in carbon emissions from the Global Carbon Project and consider: What does this mean for 1.5°C ambition? What are the impacts and risks of continued warming? How can we build greater resilience to those risks?
Speakers: Scientists and stakeholders from the CONSTRAIN consortium, Global Carbon Project, UK Met Office, and Universities of Exeter and Reading, plus panellists including science-policy experts from countries in climate hotspots, representatives of NGOs, and science media experts.

Organisers: Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change and London School of EconomicsClimate change affects health in multiple and complex ways, but as yet there is very little quantification of this health impact. Dr Shouro Dasgupta and Professor Elizabeth Robinson will present new findings that highlight and quantify the negative health impacts that can be attributed to climate change on child health and food security, focusing on Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia. Using data from more than 80 countries, presenters demonstrate how heat stress has had an increasingly negative impact on food security, amplifying existing inequalities. They quantify the extent to which reductions in food security can be attributed to climate-induced temperature anomalies and highlight climate change-food security hotspots. An international panel of experts will discuss the implications of these findings for policies that can reduce food insecurity and undernutrition; and build resilience in lower-income countries.

NAVIGATE partners co-organise an online side event at the EU pavilion at COP26, together with the H2020 projects LOCOMOTION, Paris Reinforce and VERIFY.
The projects discuss challenges and opportunities on the way to an emission neutral society. These include the implications of the EU recovery funds on emissions and employment, social and resource implications of a fair renewable energy transition, transformative mitigation measures on the supply and demand side, and the need for independent verification of country emissions accounts.
