Starting July 2023, two new members join the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium:
The Energy Economics Group (EEG) is a department of the Institute of Energy Systems and Electrical Drives at the Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien). The research group is at the forefront of addressing the challenges of the transition to sustainable energy supply from an energy systems perspective and has a scientific staff of about 20 people. EEG has managed and carried out many international and national research projects funded by the European Commission, national governments, public and private clients. Professor Sebastian Zwickl-Bernhard will be the main contact of the Group.
Northeast Asia has emerged as the region with the highest greenhouse gas (GHG) and air pollutant emissions in the world. Consequently, the impact on human health from air pollution has become a serious issue in this region. Given its high emissions intensity, Northeast Asia has the potential to become a key area for climate change mitigation and achieving carbon neutrality.
To address these issues, the Climate and Atmospheric Information Systems (CAIS) research group, led by Prof. Jung-Hun Woo, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Konkuk University in Seoul, Korea, has developed a National level Integrated Assessment Model called GUIDE (Greenhouse gases and air pollutants Unified Information Design System for Environment). CAIS is currently expanding the GUIDE IAM to a global level IAM to support global GHG mitigation and adaptation (air pollution) with a focus on Northeast Asia. Simultaneously, CAIS is also developing a local level IAM called GUIDE-Local to support local implementation plans for GHG mitigation and air pollution. The development of both the GUIDE-Global and GUIDE-Local models is being conducted through coordinated research efforts involving national collaborators – Seoul National University, Sookmyung Woman’s University, Kyunghee University, Soongsil University, and two IT companies.
