CHOICE Webinar Showcases Interactive Tools Bringing Food-System Models Closer to Stakeholders

On 23 March 2026, the Horizon Europe project CHOICE organised an online webinar presenting two interactive simulation environments that help make complex food-system modelling more accessible, visual, and useful for stakeholder engagement.

The webinar focused on two CHOICE-related tools:

  • FELiX Integrated Simulation Environment — FELiX ISE The FELiX ISE is a web-based interface built on the existing FeliX Integrated Assessment Model, developed and maintained by IIASA. Within CHOICE, IIASA and ICCS developed an intuitive interactive platform that allows non-expert users to explore food, land-use, and behavioural change scenarios.
  • FABLE Calculator Interactive Simulation Environment — FABLE ISE The FABLE ISE is based on the existing Excel-based FABLE Calculator, an open and free accounting tool used to study the evolution of food and land-use systems from 2000 to 2050. Developed by ERRA in collaboration with SDSN, the web-based dashboards help users explore and compare national food-system pathways through interactive charts and scenario selections.

The session featured contributions from experts from IIASA and SDSN, including Sibel Eker, Ryan Yi Wei Tan, and Clara Douzal.

Through conceptual presentations, live demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, participants explored how assumptions related to dietary change, food waste reduction, alternative proteins, land use, productivity, and policy choices can influence sustainability outcomes.

The webinar also connected to a wider series of CHOICE articles presenting developments and applications of the FELiX and FABLE Calculator climate models, including:
