International Autumn School “Climate Policy and Energy System Transformation: New Opportunities and Challenges of the Consideration of Co-Benefits”

The Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and Forschungszentrum Jülich have launched an International Autumn School on “Climate Policy and Energy System Transformation: New Opportunities and Challenges of the Consideration of Co-Benefits”. The autumn school will be held September 13-17, 2021, and the deadline for the application is July 15, 2021.

Climate policies like the European Green Deal are fostering the transformation of energy systems. As energy use is the main contributor to global CO2 emissions, the decarbonisation of energy systems is seen as an important pillar of the combat of global warming. The focus of the School will be on the policies inducing energy system transformations and in particular, it will be concerned with a broad range of their different effects. In recent years, scientists from different disciplines dedicated much effort on investigating co-effects, i.e. effects that climate policies generate additionally to the primarily intended climate protection effects.

The School will address and present state-of-the-art concepts and methods to capture effects of low-carbon policies in order to improve the scope for well-informed decision-making of policymakers. The school will sensitize the participants for the complexity faced by policymakers and researchers concerned with climate policy. Furthermore, over five days, the school aims to provide such skills and knowledge to students, which are required for the sophisticated task of including different effects with different features in the analysis of climate policy. The School includes different elements like lecture parts, workshops (linked to the content of the lectures), poster exhibitions and an open panel discussion.

Accepted participants will receive full reimbursement of travel expenses and accommodation costs will be covered by the organizers.
